View Full Version : Dr. Pepper
The previous topic dealt with the "Rule of 45". That reminded me of the "Dr. Pepper Rule" (10-2-4) covered in Blackjack Bluebook II. In most cases you stand with a two card total of 12 vs. a dealer 4. However, if your 12 consists of 10 and 2, you should hit vs. the dealer's 4. This play has brought me much grief from other players, of course. Recently, a dealer scolded me for doing it! Do any of you make this play, and what reactions have you experienced?
I make this play all the time. And true, dealers will look at me with a "?" on their faces. The biggest feedback is from the rest of the table who think that I should stand. I remember one time I got so pissed from everyone else making comments that on the next DrPepper I doubled down with ONE DOLLAR. I drove everyone at the table nuts, dealer had to call out to the pit boss, "doubling down on 12." LOL ... I had a great time, and I won ... LOL!!!

I always hit a Hand of 12 vs. Dealer 4 Upcard no matter what,
because at the most, there is only a 31% chance of Busting,
and at the least, a 69% chance of not Busting...go figure...
If you Stand on a Hand of 12 vs. Dealer 4,
you're gonna Lose about 60% of the time,
because the Dealer is only gonna Bust about 40% of the time with a 4 Upcard.
play your hand, forget about the other folks if you bust out, you lose. If you take a make card from the dealer the table says it was a good hit.
there are lots of variations that I personally use. the one thing that I truely cant stand is people that play your hand for you. if you ask for advice, your asking and then the table dealer and Mr. Knows all can help.
today I spend 4 hours playing blackjack, I have luck - a good portion of the time. Personally I am scared to bet I always have been, I nickle and dime the table, usually winning 200 or so before saying ok its time to go home. Today I made some bigger bets, I had 30 out there, split 8's vs. dealer jack, hit a 3 and a 2 and a 10 and 9 for 2 hands of 20, doubling on both of the hands, Mr. Blackjack was at the table spouting off with all his counting and telling me I should double and this and that needless to say the dealer flipped a 9 and I was the only one on the table to win anything, pulled back my 120 in pay out and then sat out for a few hands. just so I could calm down abit because that was the biggest bet I have ever made.
I also do what the dealer tells me, pair of 4's on a dealer 5 - normally a split. when I put my 10 dollars out there the dealer looked at me, and said "double right?" others at the table were saying split. I went with the dealer for a 10, the 4 cards were all 10's and the dealer flipped a 2. no matter how that hand was played out, the dealer was making 17, myself and a guy with pat 20 were the only ones to win.
needless to say, Mr. Blackjack got pissed off at the dealer for taking his money 3 hands in a row and left.
also one good thing that I always do is make the dealer laugh, conversation and things : )

THEN surfteq YOUR NOT PLAYING PROPER BASIC STRATEGY!!!
The only time you're supposed to hit 12 v 4 is when the cards on the board cancel each other, i.e. same # of babies as 10's, or even 1 more 10 then baby out. If there's even 1 more baby then 10 and you hit and not counting you're not playing very smart. Think about this situation: If you have 10/2 v 4 and the other 4 players at the table have ALL SMALL CARDS (at least 10! including you and dealer), do you then think you should really take a hit?

Liezel Quote,"YOUR NOT PLAYING PROPER BASIC STRATEGY!!!"...
Of course NOT mate...
"Basic Strategy" is NOT the "Holy Grail!!!"...
That's what amazes me about Blackjack,
is how "Religious" people can get about "Basic Strategy"...LOL...
I always HIT 12 vs. 2, 3, or 4 up in Low Counts...
I always HIT 13 vs. 2 or 3 up in Low Counts...
I always SPLIT 10's vs. 5 or 6 up in High Counts...
