for the longest time, whenever i open the door for a lady, on the day i play at the casino, i lose. last week, for the first time, i finally won... i think my curse is finally over. does anyone else have any goofy superstitions? also, i find that asians go beserk if you ever touch them on the shoulder while they are playing and will blame you for their bad luck (i'm asian and it doesn't bother me). does anyone have any superstitious stories to share?

I have superstitions about hitting a hard 15 or hard 16 when the dealer shows a 7 up. How do you play in this situation?

i always hit hard 15 or hard 16 vs dealer's 7.... on the rare occasion when i forget, the dealer is nice enough to correct me. ninety-five per cent of asians don't hit 16 vs 10 and it used to drive me nuts... however, i found that it helped me as much as it hurt me. believe it or not, i sometimes get grief from other players, especially old asian ladies, whenever i hit 16 versus dealer 10 in high limit tables! no matter how poor everybody else is playing, if i just focus on basic strategy on my own cards, i'll do alright. it took me eighteen years to finally accept that it's wasted energy to blame other players for my losses... i was just stupid not to walk away when i was ahead. i guess bottom line is that superstitions show a lack of accountability... but darn it, you've got to blame something or someone when things go wrong!

by the way, i think this is a great site. i love the war stories especially when little guy beats the house!!! blackjack is the best game around... i won't play poker, despite its huge popularity, because i'm paranoid of collusion amongst players.

Pardon me, but I believe you contradicted yourself. You said you never hit a hard 15 or 16 vs a dealer 7 (always stand), and you also focus on basic strategy. :?
Have you looked at your basic strategy chart lately?

sorry my brain is frazzled. yes i hit 15 and 16 versus dealers 7. what i basically meant to say was asians don't usually hit 16 versus dealer's 10. i re-read what i wrote and am re-editing. i'm such a goof!

yes , they always stand at 14-16 vs 7-10

even sometimes stand 12-13

they will think u are a fool if u hit 15 or 16

since they think not burst have larger chance to win

i really wonder why they not surrender if not hit at 14 / 15
