What does the term "rule of 6" mean in regards to shuffling the deck?

Referring to a single deck game.

E.L. - Six "riffs" will completely shuffle the deck (theoretically at least).

So in a single deck game how many dealer riffs are normally employed before the start of dealing?

Bug - The new deck is washed first, then stacked, then six riffs.

In my casino, 8 decks are used, but the shoe only gets one riff per shuffle! Sometimes two riffs. No wonder shuffle trackers are in business.

Nine riffs (i.e. 2^9>8*52) are necesary to completely shuffle 8 decks.
