I'm wondering how you back count without drawing attention to yourself. Is table hopping (or any variation of it) possible in a small casino? (ie. in which no more than 12 bj tables are open at one time)

advice/tips/boastful stories would be greatly appreciated

Backcounting can at times be a tricky thing to do, but not as much as people make it out to be. The problem being most counters believe everything they do is being scrutinized and everything they do will bring them heat. Unless your playing high stakes that is almost always not the case. If you observe the game you'll notice players doing all sorts of things that would bring them heat if they were counters. For example, its advantageous for a counter to see all burn cards, but lots of players insist on seeing them for superstitious non counting reasons. For shuffletracking and card placement games its important for the advantage player to cut the cards, but lots of people want to cut the cards just for good luck. I've heard many times people ask how many decks there are in the shoe they are playing, now a good counter should already know this, but its still a question that as a novice counter you might ask. My point being the best cover is to be like everyone else. Blackjack players can be strange and quirky and thats the best cover there is. So when you're backcounting a table have a drink in your hand, watch but be relaxed. Count the cards than look around at other tables or at other people. If the dealer asks you if you want to play, tell them maybe later you're new to the game and want to check it out first. Or say not yet I just got killed at craps and am still recovering. It doesn't matter what you say they really don't care that much. If you're table hopping you can get up and leave because you feel lucky and want to leave up, or because of bad luck whichever one fits the situation. You can even just get up and tell them to save your spot and go to the bathroom and watch some tables on the way back. What I'm really getting at is a lot of times the actions of a counter are also that of an average player. At red tables anything goes for the most part. Even green is not that bad. But when you turn green play into black play, you're now being watched so than its time to be careful. Just observe the environment of the casino and you'll see there is usually a lot more strange players than you to watch.
