Check out the following link:
http://frontpage.inxpress.net/grinder/warehouse.htm?gamblemag
and follow the BJ Simulations Link.
It shows with a simulation that A5 can gain a slight advantage.
6 deck, Stand on 17, DAS, DA2, Split up to 4 hands, 75% pen, No surrender
Adv for the sim: 0.01%

The sim results also assume that you play EVERY hand. You can increase your chances by walking away at -3 counts.

Sorry for the delay... I have had other interests.
Yes, You can play A5 with an advantage, without surrender. As I point out on the stand soft 17 pages, but you lose a lot of the 1/4% advantage.
The bet ramp skips the 6-unit bet... so the bets are 1,2,4,8 for running counts of -1 or less, zero, +1, and +2 or more. When you get "surrenderable" hands, you must play for full price (Re:hit/stand). One can have a 0.15% advantage with these changes for eight decks, a little more with six. Bad hands become expensive w/o surrender.
