Staying @ The Venetian and wondering if I really or if it's truly recommended that I buy in for 1000.00 if playing a quarter table (Almost always the lowest minimum at that venue)

Might be better to bring a grand, but change 300-400 at the table. Keep the reserves pocketed until you need them. JMHO

N&B has the right idea. My suggestions are always:

(1) maintain a low profile. If you are playing with black chippers, who usually buy in for $1K and up, your $1K buyin won't be that unusual, but if everyone around you buys in for $500, your big pile of chips will mark you. By the same token, don't buy in for $200. You will slow the game down if you hit a split/double and you are counting so that you have a bigger than min bet out. There is nothing more obnoxious than a ploppy that buys in at a table, with an amount that buys 2-4 chips. And he does this over and over as he loses.

(2) you want to be a small fish in a big pond, not a big fish in a small pond. Play with black chippers and your green action will probably be totally ignored. Play green with a bunch of red-chippers and you will get noticed if you win...

(3) blend in. If the pit boss asks the dealer "Who was that guy?" you want him to answer "no idea". If the pit asks for a description, you want everyone to remember "average size, average clothes, etc..."

(4) did I mention "blend in"? :) Kenny Uston might have gotten away with wild things in the past. Better to not be so wild today.

Thanks for the tips.
The Venetian is a nice place to stay, but I really don't like to play there, I'm actually a lot more comfortable at some of the "downtown" casinos for some reason (for gambling, that is) Weird huh?

Mike,

I agree the Venetian is a beautiful place, although I have never played there even though I have walked through it hundreds of times... ahaha..

I find my attraction to play BlackJack slightly off the strip @ the PALMS.. Always had good play experiences there in the past...

Downtown is nice because of the cheaper games but everytime ive gone they are always way too crowded and too smoke filled for me..

Go where you feel the best Karma and maintain the mystery man identity...

I like playing at a 5,10,or 15 dollar table for some reason, and typically play a 25 30 35 40 progression, but don't like to play that @ a 25 dollar table. I think because I don't usually have the red chips to accommodate that progression when playing a quarter table.
Plus playing at a lower limit table and throwing a red toke the dealer’s way every now and again (when winning) gets a friendlier atmosphere on the table and even from the pit. I'll even give the dealer any dollar chips
( like 2 or 3) I have when I leave even if I'm busted when I leave, just to be remembered fondly the next session.

Its generally not a good idea to 'play where you stay'.

I agree N&B... But that only holds true for me when I go to Vegas, when I go down to AC I stay & play @ the Borgata... I can't seem to do good at any of the other senior villages there in AC ahahah..

Why is that?

Your hosts tend to keep a close eye on you... especially if lodging there, also.
