Hi everyone,

Has anyone used a device(such as cell phone etc) or other method for keeping track of the count? I think I might have a hard time keeping track in my head.

Also, do AC casinos allow you to surrender?

Cell is a no-no. I read somewhere that "arrangements of chips" has merits is seeking to what you want to accomplish. I'm sure the AP could give a better answer.

No! Do not use a cell phone or any other device. If you get caught, you will find yourself in a world of trouble. The only advice I can give you is to practice, practice, practice. Oh, and did I tell you that you should also practice?

In a casino, particularly Nevada where the GCB and the local police and the local casino security people are all on a first name basis, the rule is "you are guilty until proven innocent." If you use a device, look out. In fact, most places in LV that I played would ask me to step back from the table if I took a phone call (usually a fake phone call, and I wanted to step back because the count had tanked, but it is much more convincing when _they_ ask you to step back.) :)

I would not even play with an electronic key fob, since there is a small counting device that can be bought that looks just like one, and it will get you into a world of hurt, including a felony conviction if caught (in Nevada).

Like someone else said, do not bring in an electronic device if you know what's good for you. Surprisingly, keeping a running count is not that difficult after a few months of practice. If you're having too much trouble, try the following:

- Buy in for whatever amount, but be sure to buy some $1 chips.
- Stack the $1 chips according to the count.
- If using Hi/Lo or any count that dips into (-) negative numbers, use a $0.50 chip to denote the presence of a negative or positive count.

I'm sure you could come up with something better, but this is what I used to do when I first started out.

Even then, it may not be wise to use chips to keep the count. I seem to recall that using chips could be considered using a "device."

I don't believe they could make that "stick" since _they_ give you the chips. But counting with chips can be a bit obvious. You could use 4 chips and count in binary with them, I doubt a pit critter would figure that out (1 = logo up, 0 = logo down, etc). But the problem with that, from experience of using chips to do a side-count is that in a moment of indiscretion, you will double with your ace side-count chips when you grab chips to double on a hot hand. And you are then SOL until the shuffle. :)

I love the idea, SSR... I'm wondering, are you using two's complement for the negative counts ? ;)

Is that BCD or HEX.......We were talking about the use of chips
for Ace side counts one day and I think it was Grifter who made
a rather unique suggestion: use one(1) chip as a clock....the idea
is that 1:00pm is 1 and 2pm=2, etc. You could break that down to
half hours and say 12:30pm=+1, 1pm=+2 and for neg counts go the other way 11:30=-1, 11=-2, etc. Seems a little crazy, but............

Ray, thats the best idea I have heard of besides, practice, practice, pratice. Rotating a chip is is a lot less obvious then stacking them.
