View Full Version : WHO ARE THEY

Based on articles posted on this Forum, the casinos are saying that
advantage players are impacting their bottom line. Well, I for one
find that hard to believe and tend to think that greed is the source
more than anything else. How many of you have seen or even suspected
a player at your table knew more than the casinos would like? I think
something between one and none in the last year would be very close.

Because most games are of the shoe type, is it possible that there
are advantage players that don't know that they have an advantage?
If we can give any credence to what the casinos are saying, then
something has got to be occuring that is not in accordinance with what
we know about this game. What could it be? Is it just plain old greed?

Like any public company, casinos are always looking at ways to improve the bottom line. I think maybe they are trying to squeeze out 'advatage' players to improve their margins (along with other changes like Dealer Hits Soft 17 games).

So like you, Ray, I'd say it's just another form of greed.

Buffarino, Add to that "no mid-shoe entry" and a cut of close to two
decks. I guess they need to present a plan to the stock holders as to
how next year will look.

I like your town man and so does my family......(some live there)

Advantage players seen last year???.......Six or seven. Say three for sure (I knew one or them) and "suspect" on three or four more.

Ray, the problem with your question is that only an advantage player is going to be able to recognize another advantage player....and there aren't too many in our forum.

Grifter, Your more than likely right about my question. It may have
something to do with location. The potential for AC, LV, or maybe
Tunica and Reno is greater than the river boats in my area. But I
still will favor greed because there are just too many know nothing
players everywhere.

Actually it is corporate greed. When gambling got respectiable and went to, "gaming" as the corporations got involved, the games started going down hill and they are still going down hill, with their 6/5 BJ.
This didn't happen overnight. I think it all started when Howard Hughes started buying up casinos. Now the corporations started to get in the casino business. Old timers know what Vegas used to be like, when you could find a deeply dealt, S-17, single or double deck games all over the place. Eveything changes, but don't think it always changes for the better.

Zebra, I played in the Bahamas a couple of times in the last few yrs.
The games were good, little heat and good variety. I did very well both
times. Most players were from Fla., as you might expect, and the ones
I talked to came there to avoid the off -shore boats.

As far as Europe, I can't say, but I'll tell you that you can't find a Casino
in Ireland; I was there last summer; all over that country and there are
none to be found. I'm going back next year and may plan to look at
other countries before the trip.

Ireland has a strong Catholic influence; lots of Cathedrals; no Casinos.....
If you like Castles, there is one in every town....

Well in my experience, Casino Niagara (canada) isn't too awfully bad for their shoe games. They have 6 deck shoes I believe with the following: Stand on soft 17, split any two (aces get 1 card), double after split.

I may be planning a trip back up there... as they have been sending me some good comps, as it stands if I go up ther this moth, I get $5 free in chips. Not too shabby.

I guess it qualifies as "outside the US" though I'm sure that casino is less than a mile from the marker at the midpoint of the bridge. How's the traffic through customs?

Well, first off, i meant $45, not 5 when I wrote before, and of the times that I went up there, customs wasn't too bad. Pretty much they don't care for you going into Canada from US, but US customs can be a major pain (at times, just depends on how their day is...) coming back in.... it's always a good idea to have your birth certificate.

Ray & Jeff --

I've never had any problems with customs at Niagara -- I just don't like the casino that much. I was a craps shooter when I was last there and got clobbered -- made a lucky recovery on a roulette wheel before limping back across the border lucky to still be wearing a shirt. I'm sure I would absolutely love the place had I cleaned up there -- but I didn't and couldn't as I wasn't even playing a fair game of blackjack at that time. (I think I've improved to "fair" only since signing on here, picking up a few books (including Thomason and Renzey), and tuning in to the winning approach espoused by most of you good folks.) The rule set you describe is basically what I'm looking for -- though I prefer a pitch game -- 2 decks -- with surrender -- and don't mind paying a bit (in terms of table minimum) to play this way. I'd actually like to check out Costa Rica or the Caribbean if the rules there are favorable and the hurricanes are on vacation. Ray, do you recall the rule set where you played in the Bahamas? You wrote "good variety" but I'm not sure what this means.

Zebra, best I can recall: 2 and 6 deck: S17, DOA, DAS, one card A's
Did not see any "NO MID-SHOE ENTRY", Good cut. I think there may
be some reason for this....mainly the off-shore boats.

The name of the port is Freeport

Ray

Also, one or two single deck....but with different rules that I don't
remember.
