Lack of Shuffle?
  • Had the worst session of BJ yesterday. Lost 40 units.
I counted (I’m still leaning to count), & played conservatively with lots of Wonging.
When I walked the Casino, I noticed in most cases the dealers seemed to be winning more than the players. I was at two different tables where the dealers apologized for the hands they were getting. Dealers were commiserating with each other on the lack of tips. I saw rounds of mostly ten’s with lots of pushes and many rounds of small cards with dealers winning.
    WHY??
Just a guess, but it was early in the day in a small Indian Casino with only few tables working. I would think the tables had all opened up less than an hour before. If we assume 3 players per table, 4 with dealer at 60 hands per hour, @ 2.7 cards per hands, that is about 25 minutes per round. They use the ASM’s, 6 decks, red & blue decks per machine. Thus each 6 deck shoe may have been shuffled in the machine only once or twice?? Could that have been the reason? Any ideas, other than don’t go back early in the day???

That’s not so bad. I’ve lost at a rate of 80 units per hour or more numerous times. That’s just part of the game.

Uneven card distribution. Apparently there were “clumps” (I always hate to use that word) of high and low cards in the shoe. This is normal. If all of the cards were evenly distributed then the count would be neutral all the time and card counting would be a waste of time.

I don’t know about that particular casino, but usually they will at least wash all of the cards before putting them into the ASM for the first time. They may even shuffle them once by hand after new cards are brought in. In any case, I wouldn’t worry about it.

  • I have never played in a casino (150 or so different ones) that didn't count and scrub new decks (either with or without ASM's). As Sonny said, "don't worry about it."
