Question for Renzey on 16's
  • Dealer is showing a 10 up. While playing basic strategy, should I hit my THREE CARD 16, or stand? Does the answer also apply to dealer's 7,8, or 9 up?

First off, if playing basic strategy , always hit any kind of 16 against a 7, 8, 9 or Ace.

Against the 10 -- I have a printout showing the hit/stand EV for 200 different combinations of 16 vs. 10 (6 decks). Short of memorizing them all, about the best blanket "rule of thumb" is to stand if your 16 contains a 4 or 5, and hit if it doesn't.
