I practice basic strategy online at bodog casino. I play BS to the letter there and most of the time I get wasted. In the practice session, they give you $1000. I deliberately lose 850 so I have 150 left and then play as if I would in a real casino- $15 flat bets. Most of the time, I lose the money pretty quickly- like 25-30 hands. I usually alternate a few wins and losses and steadily go down to 0.
On the simulator here, however, I'll usually show about a $100 profit after I play through the 20 hands on difficult level. The simulator here has better odds than bodog- dealer stands on soft 17 here while he hits on soft 17 at bodog. But would that really make so much of a difference?
I've only played real blackjack at a casino once and lost $175. But that was before I knew about strategy. I'm going again tonight though.
I know that online practice programs shuffle after each hand, which essentially makes it an infinite deck, which puts the odds more in favor of the house. A casino using real cards would obviously not shuffle a 4 or 6 deck shoe after every hand.
What I'm asking is this- How different are the odds on practice simulators vs. in the real world? I know that's a pretty vague question, but any input would be appreciated.
