does anyone know?
  • hi all-
does anyone know when the movie about the m.i.t. blackjack team produced by kevin spacey will be coming to the theaters? thanks.
    prog
  • Not for at least a year. Probably longer. They might not even start filming until March or April. It's currently called "Breaking Vegas", even though that's the same title as the History Channel's documentary about it.
  • I wonder what effect that movie coming out would have on casinos...

On one hand I think it could lead to more people trying to count--which means more people messing up and betting higher amounts and losing--although it could spawn some new skilled counters too
  • I think for every person who sees that movie and studies and becomes a skilled counter, there will be 100 who will go for the quick fix and wind up losing more.
  • Agreed.

Man, If I was a casino I'd even tout my blackjack rules as being advantageous to 'counters' to attract more people after the movie came out.

I'd also tell the dealers to deal and put cards in the discard a little quicker than usual. :)
  • I don't think they could deal much faster. The pit critters are already on the dealers to maximize hands per hour to maximize the table's "hold".

My favorite game is heads up against a dealer, and counting there is not a problem, even though the speed can be blinding if you make your decisions quickly.
  • At a particular indian casino I frequent some of the dealers are a little slow in the head--which works out great for us !

    hah
  • Does anyone really believe that a movie could affect the casino business?

I am new to this forum. This is my first look at this site. I hope there are better discussions further down the list.[/quote]
  • lighten up babe!

Of course it could. I mean, someone could watch Ocean's Eleven and go rob the Bellagio. That would cost the casino tons of money.
  • There is a fairly entertaining movie that was released in Canada called "The Last Casino" that is similar to the MIT story. The movie is about a university teacher who recruits 3 bright students to learn the art of card counting and makes them play, and win, for him
