What the hell was up with my dealers?
  • OK so I went to this casino in the Santa Ynez Valley in California this weekend. On an Indian Reservation. The dealers seemed to be basically bragging about how they knew what cards they were dealing. One guy would deal me a card and say "jack of spades", then turn it over and be right. He did it a few times, playing with 6 decks. He was just flaunting it...

Another dealer dealt me a card face down. He saw I was out of chips and said "Thanks for playing! Goodnight!" Then when he came back to me and turned that card over, sure enough I had busted. My girlfriend said "how did he know?" and he responded "WE KNOW..." with a smile.

Is it me or are they way too comfortable flaunting that they're cheating?

And if you're wondering how I did...I started off with an amazing streak with the first guy who was really flaunting. Then lost it all on other tables. Using Basic Strategy very well.
  • I'm sorry for hearing about your upset. I've never heard anythign of BJ dealers cheating. I know of a casino here locally thats on an indian reservation and it amazes me to see how much I lose at the high stakes roulette tables. Course you can say to yourself, well s*** happens I spoke to a friend of mine he told me its not too uncommon with indian-ran casinos to impose cheating tactics so-to-say. And he's right, it has been on the news before. I wouldn't doubt that there IS some out there, possibly in your case  . My sister used to be a high stakes BJ dealer I got as much information from her as I can, and as far as BJ is concerned, there isn't any cheating involved but she tells me ... there is manipulation. And yes BJ dealers can manipulate the deck but these are within the rules and are used primarily to take down the card counters. I cant think of an explanation in your case, very unfortunate, though I'm sure the dealers were just being cocky cause they were on a "roll". Good luck to you ===
  • I'd be surprised if they were cheating and flaunting it so much. Its possible, but they'd have to be pretty stupid, knowing it would just drive their customers away.

Its more probable that the dealer was just able to look at the cards before they were dealt in some manner.

In any event, that dealer should be fired.
  • I have seen dealers do this and some times it looks like they know, but I think it was just luck..... most of the time they are wrong.... Just remember you are dealing with a minimum wage person so let him/her have a little glory.... Just don't use them for advice on how to play as most of them are not good players. At Pauma friday night a dealer named Fred got into it with a player because he called him Freddy.... Finally I told both of them if they wanted to argue to go to the parking lot or I was going to call the Pit Boss over.... I have found a lot of the male dealers to be jerks where the females are nicer....."UncleNorm"
  • The females may be nicer, but for some reason I always do better with male dealers at the BJ table. They can be complete jerks, but my biggest losing sessions are always to female dealers for some reason.
  • Even if the dealer could somehow see your cards as he dealt them, how is this cheating? How would knowing your facedown card affect the game?
  • One guy would deal me a card and say "jack of spades", then turn it over and be right. He did it a few times, playing with 6 decks. He was just flaunting it...

The Dealers name was Danny, and he catches the corner coming outta the shoe to know what your card was.

if you got any attitude at the Chumash you were giving the dealers a hard time and being a total ass.

I played the chumash once a week for a year. most of the dealers I know and none of them there are just total dicks.

  • Just out of curiousity,do they deal the 3rd card facedown there? I've never seen that anywhere I've played. If you busted on a double down,I suspect the dealer might not have been the only one happy to see you leave.

I wasn't getting attitude from anyone there. They were fairly nice, I just didn't understand why they were showing off.
