My lastest trip involved a lady who came up to the table I was playing at and placed chips on top of my bet. I asked what she was doing, and she said I want to piggyback your bet and the dealer added, you do not have to allow that, and she can not tell you how to play the hand. I thought it was very strange, and never heard of this before. Why would anyone wish to play\bet like that?

Maybe she liked the way you played and wanted to make a dollar or two or maybe she wanted some action...er...of one kind or another. :lol:
Just curious, what kind of bets were you making?
And, tell us what happened after, and what did she look like, a real looker or an old sea hag? -
Well before she came up I had already lost my orginal 300.00 limit I played with. I then broke my own little rule and drew out another 300.00
I then had gone to another table [ 25.00 min] and had began playing.
She then began placing 5 to 10 dollars on my bet and my luck really changed. managed to get several black jacks in a roll, but what was funny I got a 16 against the dealers 9 showing, I of course hit my 16 and the lady said no no your going to bust, hold on the 16. I said lady the dealer has 19 I will lose anyway, so I got a 5 to go with my 16 lol the dealer in fact had 19. The next hand I got 15 against the dealers 8 showing I hit the lady again said no no your going to bust! well I wind up with a 6 to again get 21. The next hand I got two eights against the dealers ace in which the lady said surrender, and I said lady relax a moment would you, I split my eights and got a ace on one and a 10 on the other. The dealer then flipped the down card and it was a 6 again winning both hands. The lady then said ok, I will keep my mouth shut from now on, you seem to know what your doing. I looked at her and said had you seen me earlier you would have said otherwise lol I played several shoes more and then quit. I had won back the orginal 300 I lost plus about 100.00 more
The lady won about 200 herself, and then bought me breakfast. She was not pretty but was not ugly neither. She said she would like to try higher min tables but simply did not have the courage to make those kind of bets. -
Standing behind someone and placing bets along with theirs is a common practice in Europe where often the casino's are smaller and thus have fewer tables,
I didn't realize it was allowed here, but apparently so in some places. If someone did that to me, I'd be fine with it until they started making suggestions on how to play the hand. I'd tell them to get lost immediately! -

I had this happen last week except the lady beside me asked permission first to bet on my hand too. I agreed no problem. We were getting hammered and had lost 7 hands straight. She wanted to drop her hand and try and mix up the flow. It worked well too. The difference here is that the player just can't place their chips on yours. they have to hand the chip to you and then you place the chips. As long as its done that way its allowed here. Dropping or adding a hand helps interrupt the flow a bit. -
I find this technique useful for playing matchplay coupons. Often when entering bj tournaments you are issued a $10 matchplay and a $25 matchplay. Betting $25 is a bit rich for me so my wife will take the $25 coupon, find a guy playing >$25 per hand and then ask him to play her matchplay for her. If the coupon wins she gets the $25 if she loses she's out nothing. Of course, you need to be an attractive woman to do this succesfully!

In response to the original point, yes I have, but under the circumstances of a very crowded casino like Foxwoods in the early 90's. One could "piggyback for less, or back-line for table minimum" or better, with the caveat that the seated player makes the decisions. I've sat at a table with maximum # of bets on the table... all 7 players with 2 piggybacks and 2 back-line bets. What a circus that was!

There is another issue here no one has mentioned.
I played at a Midwest casino a couple of years ago, was playing at a DD game, $25 min, and doing reasonably well for about two shuffles. On the third shuffle, when I ramped my bet up to $100, someone reached over my shoulder and plopped down two purple chips. I had never seen this before, looked at the dealer quizically, and the pit boss said "if you don't object, we allow it, but if you want, you can refuse and he has to pick up the chips." I said "OK, doesn't matter to me."
Got a 6/5, dealer had an A, I doubled, so did he, we won. Count went up, I bet $200, he bet 3 purples, I got a snapper. Next thing I got was a "tap" on the shoulder, "Would you step away from the table for a moment, please?"
They (suit + security guy) said "we don't appreciate team play here, you are no longer allowed to play on our property." They escorted me to the cage to cash out, and they followed me out the front. I had never seen my "team" member before, nor since. But we both were tossed anyway.
So it isn't always a good idea to "go with the flow" if a back-bettor drops big bets when the count is up... He could be mistaken for a "big player" -
Was that the equivalent of being 86"d? Or does "86" only apply to Nevada?
Since this was somewhere else, could you be arrested for trespassing if you returned? -
the term "86'd" is really a Navadaism. From the section of the legal code dealing with tresspassing. You can have it done to you in most every state except for a couple, such as new jersey, and perhaps michigan or somewhere in the middle of the US. MS allows the casinos to kick you out and they can arrest you if you return, but there has to be some paperwork showing that you understand the "no trespassing" warning the casino issues. I don't think that a verbal warning is enough in court, unless they have it on video with audio and a witness or two.
But I really would not press it too hard, there are other places to play.
