Club cards
  • What's the general consensus here on these cards? I gotta say they're very enticing. I'm planning on playing twice a week at two casinos here, and I would think I can rack up some pretty good points.

Having said that, what are the "privacy" rules involved? Neither casino's website mentions anything about that, except for the usual thing about using your likeness, etc., etc., etc. What about the financial angle? If you've had some fairly consistent wins, I imagine that would be a very interesting printout for the IRS. Are they allowed to do that?

I'm thinking of maybe just presenting the card about half the time, and hoping it is during one of the losing sessions.

    Any thoughts?

  • When you sign up, read the agreement, take 5-10 minutes to read all of it. It does put you on promotional mailings from the casino. You may even get a sports book mailing or two. It DOES mean that you're a member of the club, and the club has rules, including the gaming rules.

If you go to Mohegan and sign up ask for the coffee club card also. Ask for the rules of the club, if you're not sure... both CT casinos provide a pamphlet.

I think signing up for the club cards is a no brainer. In my case the comps from using the cards cover half or a little more than half of my loses. In blackjack the casino does not keep an exact record of your wins & loses. They have a pretty good idea of how much you bet. Thats how you get your rating and how they decide how much to comp you. But I don't think they have a very good idea of how much you win or lose except in a general way.

  • Thanks folks, I'm a little more comfortable with this now.
  • Jim,

Winnings are not tracked on the cards, so you do not need to worry about the IRS. If you cash in more than $10,000 in chips, the IRS IS notified. The cards track how much you bet, not how much you win or lose.

You will get junk mail from the casinos if you have a card.

The comps do add up quickly. Most players have a card - if you don't, it looks suspicious and will invite attention to your play.

So feel free to get one.

Ed, you brought up two very good points that I was not aware of. Knowing that winnings aren't tracked makes me very comfortable. Now all I have to do is win

Now that you mention it, sure, how would they be able to do that? They would have to enter winning data for each hand, or cumulatively, and it would be impossible, given the nature of the game. So does the tracking of your average bet rely on a visual by the pit boss? I'm guessing that's the case. But then, how is that entered in the card file?

Also makes sense about drawing attention by not using one.

    Thanks for your observations.
  • What?!

HEY MODS YOU DINT HAVE TO DELETE THE ENTIRE POST YOU COULDA JUST EDITED IT.....................

Anyway I have to rewrite what I wrote earlier because they seem to want to think they have "power" by feeling good to completely delete people's posts... it wasn't even half-bad, §hieT! Damn, QUIT ABUSING YOUR PRIVILEGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     ...You gonna delete THIS one too?!

So, I think I was saying why not just cash your >$10000 chips in spreads so that the moronic IRS wont know about it at all?! I mean, wouldn't this be the most SENSIBLE thing to do to not get involved in anything? Any other geniuses think about this?

When you sign up, read the agreement, take 5-10 minutes to read all of it. It does put you on promotional mailings from the casino.

HUH!??!!? I've never received or read an "agreement" in all of the 3 casinos I've signed up for a club card. What bunk ass casino requires this?!
  • I don't know how they determine your average bet. Maybe someone else can chime in.

But I'll take a guess: visual inspection, sometimes they ask the dealer. Sometimes I'll ask the pit boss, "What do you have me down for?" They'll say something like, "Spreading $10 to $50". They're usually pretty accurate. I like to Wong in, so my initial bet is larger than my minimum. With the same ramp, the PB will say, "Spreading $20 to $50" The more they think you're betting, the more comps you get. Here's where tipping the dealer helps - when he asks the dealer what you're betting, he'll give a higher number if you're tipping more.
  • Bug, I am not your mother. It is not my job to pick up your clothes, make your bed or edit your posts... Clean up your act and you don't have to worry about getting your posts busted. It is that simple.
  • Okay well apparently you are a RUDE and INCONSIDERATE mod then because Grifter has no problem EDITING posts instead of completely deleting the time and effort spent in making it. Mods are supposed to EDIT posts, not just flat-out delete them, is that too hard for you to do?
  • You crack me up, Bug. The solution is simple - tone your posts down and you won't have to worry about them getting edited or deleted.
  • I crack you up... good because if my WRITING already cracks you up you'd die pissing in your pants and laughing your ass off watching my stand-up Comedy routines.

Thankfully, I don't see myself being in that hellhole for a long time again, if ever.
  • Yeah, that's what I thought too.

What, that Houston is a hellhole? I knew you'd agree.

  • No. That if you come to Houston I would make you laugh your ass so hard you wouldn't even bother coming.

Could you repeat that in English, please?
