Another newbie question
  • Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just found this site. I am new to blackjack. I have most of the basic strategy down. I am going to play in a casino pretty soon. If I am playing where the cards are dealt face up and I want to double or split should I tell them when I receive my second card or do I have to wait until he comes around to me again. Also, Any tips or help you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  • To double or split, you don't have to say anything at all. Just place a bet of equal value next to your original bet. This can be done as soon as you receive your second card or when it's your turn, it doesn't matter. If you're doubling on a pair (ex. 5,5 vs. 8), the dealer will make sure you want to double and not split by asking "one card?" or putting up his index finger to indicate one card.
  • Thanks alot for the quick answer. I have been playing at home playing my hand and the dealers. I hope the double and split scenario comes up in the casino more often than it has while I have been practicing.
  • I am new to blackjack as well, but I have played in a casino many times. My only suggestion is to know the basic strategy well and do not stray from it. Do not play with gut feelings. Take your time and if you feel rushed find a new table. Perfecting basic strategy is the foundation of everything else you want to do in blackjack. Good luck!
  • Thanks for the well wishes, gambler!! I'm going to try it for the first time in a couple of weeks. Until then practice, practice!
