I misplayed a Soft 18 against a 10 last night, it was a weird situation
  • So anyway, I bet 50 Euro on a hand, and I get 2 Aces. Dealer shows a 10. Suddenly I realize those are the only chips I have so I can't split, DOH! Thought I had more in my jacket. Anyway, I hit, another Ace. Hit again, Another Ace, and of course I hit again, and of course I get a 5th Ace, no kidding, I was going crazy at this point. Not to mention everyone else at the table. So now I've got a soft 15, and I hit once more, I get a 3. Soft 18, against a dealer 10. I made the wrong move and stood, I totally lost track of my thoughts over those 5 Aces! Dealer flips a nine, I lose.

Long story short, hit on Soft 18 vs dealer 9 - A. Even if your hand consists of 5 Aces and a 3.

    Just thought I'd share.
  • Like you say and found out...if it can happen it will happen. It helps if you
always count your first or only ace as 11.
  • A couple of weeks ago I had a dealer who dealt herself 6 deuces and then a 9. Strangely, this same dealer was the one who dealt herself 5 fours a couple of years before.
  • Haaaaaaaa,

I always refer to that type of dealer as a graduate of the David Copperfield school of dealing...playing a 8 deck shoe game... I get to say that fairly often....
This game has to have odds higher than .5 even with perfect BS....I watch and watch and everybody loses....Ive watched guys lose 800 to 1200 bucks in less than an hour .....25 a hand....crappy games have 8 deck, they keep the tables crowded by closing most of the tables and then they raise the limits at these crowded tables....

And someone asks about giving back a mispay....:-) Please...

Spoken like someone who hasn't bothered to spend the time needed to make BJ into a positive expectation game.Put in the time and you'll find out that the harder you work, the luckier you get.
In some ways,an eight deck shoe that doesn't allow mid-shoe entry can be turned into a positive EV game easier than a double deck game can.
  • Try to make sure that you always have the money in front of you to take full advantage of the house rules.Digging interfears with money managment and messes with your consentration.
  • Im staying at a resort in the Carribbean where there is a blackjack table that pays $64,000 if you get 4 suited aces, any four aces is like 50% of the pot I think. It is a progressive jackpot that continually rises, but you must play a 1 dollar side bet to be eligiblefor the jackpot on the hand. You should have been playing down here!
  • And people ask me if loss limits are effective...
  • Cue what you are playing is called progresive blackjack. At work we call dealing this game sucker duty.If you have fun with it give it a little play but the ev is similar to a crown and anchor game at a carnival.
  • What a bunch of crap Nyb...you must work for a casino....An 8 deck shoe is better than a 2 deck????...let me get my boots on for your reply....

No mid shoe entry also means you cant sit out even one hand ....nor can you get up to use the bathroom....sounds like a real positive situation...moron.
  • 8 deck game DAS S17 DOA is House Advantage 0.42% (NJ)
Add LS and its reduces to 0.35% (CT Casinos)

2 deck game in Vegas H17 noDAS is House Advantage 0.52%... Don't even think about LS.
