up 1000 already
  • Hey all, im chad and i just started playing bj about 3 months ago and i have had a lot of luck lately, i play at jackson rancheria cuz its only about 30 min from my house. Ive gone there almost 4 days in a row and won all 4 times, im up like 1000 already. a lot of ppl say my luck will run out and ill lose it all, but all i do is go there with about 100 bucks and then bet min on the 10 tables and then just start betting big when im up. it works everytime and i walk with at least 400. but how long would it take to learn to count cards?
  • Way to go, CR. I had similar fortunes back in 2004 when I started playing more often. Would you let me know your playing conditions? What game rules were offered? Shoe or pitch game?

To learn card counting is easy. Put into practice and become proficient it takes time. Playing card counting properly for money and prevailing over standard deviation it takes years. You need experience, bankroll, good games and nerve to bet action when you’ve got edge.

Your four trips are indistinguishable from luck. Even if you would have played with edge during your short trips your results are just “noise” mangled together with luck. If you just play basic strategy and sit down with $100 at $10 table you have only 10 betting units. If you get lucky you will win else expect to lose it all many times over.
  • i dont know all the abbrivations yet cuz im new, but they play with 6 decks, double on any, split aces once, split 4 times, dealer hits soft 17. but i just buy in for a 100 then play the 10 table and wait til im up like a 100 then i go to the 25 and bet min, and then wait a lil longer, and then i start betting 75-200 a hand and my money just goes up from there, the past 4 days ive walked with at least 400 everytime. it just seems like betting small gets you no where and then once i started betting big i was mr. moneybags.

split aces once = NRSA (no re-split aces)
    double any 2 cards = DA2
    dealer hits soft 17 = H17
split to 4 hands max is the norm, although occasionally a dealer might let you split an unlimited number of times if the table isn't crowded and there is enough room for all your hands...
  • how should i go about to learn to count?

Almost all gamblers suffer from a common malady – they overestimate the effect of luck in the long run and underestimate luck in the short run. While anyone who is winning on consecutive 4 trips probably is kidding himself when estimating his game. On the other hand, anyone who is losing after 500 hours is probably kidding themselves when they blame their bad cards or bad luck, because it is much more likely they are not playing well enough to win.
  • Im 2004 I felt nothing could go wrong. I was believing it was because of my own "skills". I was also keeping records of each session and trip. Even on a low bankroll I was recording far more winning trips than losers. It all changed the following year, and hasn't been the same, since.
