quick question
  • Hey everyone..great site...I've been reading alot on this site now for a while but never posted... (I've been learning alot though...) I was just wondering...I'm going to the Casino tonight and I was wondering if this progresion system is worth a shot..I found it on blackjack 2002..(one of the links)...Now I know my BS and I've been working on counting but I'm still learning so I don't want to count just yet,I want to practice more....

Progressive Betting System - 5 Level

This is another simple, yet effective system, based on a 1,2,3,5 back to 1 progression. Example: For a $5 player, the betting levels would be $5,10,15, and 25. With this system you start with your $5 bet and progress to the next level when you win a hand. If you lose a hand you drop back down to your original $5 wager. If you win four hands in a row you should then drop back down to your original $5 wager, hence the 1,2,3,5 back to 1 progression.

Now at the casino They don't have 5$ minimums the minimum is 10$ so my bets would have to be $10,20,30,50 right???What should I use as a bankRoll. When I used to go I used to only bring 100 but from reading these posts I should bring 20x my minimum bets..( I never really had a betting system before but I've been reasonably lucky...)Also what do you do when you have a push with this system...Do you stay at the bet you were on or do you increase/decrease your bet...any tips you guys may have is greatly appreciated and again good job on this site...I keep coming everyday...SOrry bout the long post....
  • Claude - Welcome to the Forum. Hope you enjoy it.

If you are going to play a progression instead of counting, IMHO the 1-2-3-5 progression is a decent one; and in fact is the one recommended by Henry Tamburin, a respected writer of gambling books.

Yes, for a $10 unit the bets would be 10-20-30-50. With a push you stay at the same level. Personally I would want at least a $500 bankroll to play this at the $10 level.

  • thanks...wow that was a quick reply...I forgot to mention in that post that it's a 6d shoe game, with the basic rules...with DAS dealer stands on soft 17 and that...well I'll try it out tonight and I will let you guys know how it went...HOPEFULLY GOOD :-)
  • Hi Claude-
I use and have had great success with the Positive Progressive Betting System with Quit Points outlined in the book 21st Century Blackjack by Walter Thomason-who happens to frequent this site.

    Here's how it works;make your basic bet,let's say$10.00 increase 2nd bet by 50% and third and fourt bets by the same amount;
example $10.00-$15.00-$20.00-$25.00 now you stay at the $25.00 bet until you lose a hand then go back to the basic bet in this case $10.00
Ignore pushes. If you lose 4 hands in a row move to another table or wait for a new shoe. If you lose a bet at any point in the progression go back to your basic bet.

I've used Walters' system with great success and i bring 40 times my basic bet as my session bank.

    good luck!

  • Well I made it back a small winner :-).... I used bets of 10,15,20 and 25... I only won 65 dollars but it's still a win...For the first few shoes I would pretty much break even or a little less...But finally near the end I got the chance to do double downs and got a couple blackjacks...The two peolpe next to me kept getting blackjacks though so I was sitting in the wrong spot....I had to leave though while I was winning 'cause I have to work tonight but who knows maybe I would have lost it all.
  • Thank you both for introducing me to the 1-2-3-5 progression yesterday. I used it last night at the casino and had the best session i've EVER had!
I will without a doubt use it again and again.

  • My session could have been much better last night with a little more luck...A lot of times I was up to the 25$ bets, with a 20 or 19 value against a dealer bust card but somehow that dealer would end up with the same as me so we would push a couple times and then he would beat me...I did get to play for 2 hours though so tht was fun...oh yeah so how great of a session did you have $$$( If you don't mind me asking )

I also just ordered Walter's book so hopefully will be gettting it early next week...
  • I tripled my session bank in 1 hour and went home to dinner. Now last night was an entirely different story! Lost the entire session bankroll in 47 minutes. I'm still ahead though.
  • Prog - I'm assuming that's the beauty of progressions.... the fact that you can easily triple your session bankroll in one night, come back the next day, lose that session... and still be up more than you would be, had you instead, for example... broke even on three consecutive sessions of flat-betting.

No, If you have to play at the $10 minimum table because they don’t have a $5 table then you should play 10,10,15, 20. Matter of fact, I suspect that this is a better progression then 10,20,30,50. In the first example, if you lose the second bet you break even. Losing the third bet you still make $5 and losing the fourth bet you’ve got $10 profit.

On the other hand playing your progression of 10,20, 30,50. Here if you lose the second bet you are at -$10. You won and lost same number of hands but you've got yourself in the hole by $10, (not a good deal). Losing the third bet you break even. Here you have won two and lost one but you are still at even, (not a good deal too). And finally losing the fourth bet, you made $10, (winning 3 and losing just ONE you are only $10 in profit – again another bad deal).

You make more money with my example in the first four hands then you make with the second example. And, it lets you play the $5 progression at the $10 table. Matter of fact all your action, most of the time, will be in and around the first 3 to 4 hands. Rarely you will reach 5W in a row. Most of the time will be 2,3 and sometime 4 else the game is choppy like hell.
