Harrah's in New Orleans
  • Headed to New Orleans for the first time next week, and staying at a hotel right next to Harrah's. Anything the New Olreans vets out there can share about BJ at Harrah's (and any other New Orleans casinos) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  • Going August 7th - 10th to New Orleans, let me know how you do. Also to Miami, August 10th- 16th, anywhere in the southeast to sneak away for a few hands down there?

  • Can't speak to the rules, but the downtown casino by the convention center (Harrah's, I believe) is the only one I'd frequent. The riverboat casinos are pretty seedy, to say the least.
  • Harrah's in New Orleans is huge. The times I've been have either been great or a disaster, nothing in between. Even the atmosphere. It's either very friednly dealers everywhere or grumps ruling the house. I do think it's generally gotten a lot better over time since it's been open. It''s also easy walking distance, couple of blocks, to the French Quarter if you want to take a break.
  • I live here in New Orleans, and I've been to Harrahs several times. They have mostly 10 and 15 dollar tables, but they open up $5 tables during peak hours. All tables pay 3:2, I did not notice any double deck games. Also didn't notice any single deck, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. All shuffling looked to be automatic, but again that may have been only in the section where I was.

There are 3 other casinos in the New Orleans area, if you are going to visit any others, Boomtown is a good casino. No locals play at Harrahs, too crowded, too touristy, and the dealers have bad attitudes. Boomtown is on the West Bank, and you would have to get directions once you are here. They give you a lot of free stuff on your first visit (free money, match plays), where Harrahs doesn't give you anything. I love the atmosphere at Boomtown, the only thing I don't like is the occasional losing of money.
  • Boomtown, Cool, I'm there in August..Losing money on occasion, well I guess it would get boring to win every time. 8) :D
