Casino Conditions
  • Well, it's summer time and everyone and his brother is on vacation.
You're not going to find the Mon,Tues off days with empty tables, good
pen and fast dealers. Monday moring about 7AM, 4 crispy creams
and a large coffee later, I,m at the casino and it's full. I like to play
the $10 tables with two hands at 70%(20-20). It looks like I'm going to
have to change my game or go somewhere else to play. I,m going to
try the 4AM thing, but this river boat has the ability to match what is
open to the number of players down to a science. Any suggestions?

When the casino has lots of players, they reduce the low limit tables
and up the 25-50-100. I don't mind playing those tables, but you have
enter at the start of the shoe and that's why I like the $10 tables.

This "boat" is the only one within 100 miles, so you can see why the prob.
    exist...............
  • Ray - Checkin' in from Laughlin at 4:45 a.m.....Started playing at 2:00 a.m., takin' a break.

Sorry to hear about your trip. Just the opposite here......dead! I played the last two hours either heads up or one other player. Had to play a conservative progression most of the time because the pit boss (who I know) was at my side yakkin' (no, not heat....he was just bored because it was so slow).

  • Grif- It's just this place.....the only show in town. I ended up at the
$50 table. I tried what is my idea of a good progression if you go in
at the start of a shoe and are stalling for time. 50-50-75 or at the $25,
it would be 25-25-35. I made a little money, but not much. Hope you
    do better.............................

If you get to two units, the progression is no longer used.
  • Checkin in after MS today Late AM. Up 14 greenies, slow business. I noticed the dreaded CSM's are back. KING CSM. Looks to be 5 decks, usual rules DOA, DAS, LS, no RSA. Some different things today...

    1) Pen was better than usual, 1.25 to 1.5 decks burned. Usually 1.5 to 1.75.
    2) Unlimited splits are back.
3)Sky casino had very few pits open... 2 I think. Usually 4+.

OT: Video poker much better than earlier visits. Many 25c machines now 98.5%... $1 VP is all 99=%... and NICKEL SLOTS!

Just playin 1 to 4 spread today (usual). I got the always welcomed A5 DD vs. a 4 and drew another 5, for a $100 win (that'll go to the website fund as always) and I tipped a greenie to the genie that dealt them. And I swiped my card when I left and got 10 points. The guy in front of me... got 100.

ps: Article in today's paper that RI has approved Harrah's plan to put a Native American Casino in RI. Harrahs upped the % state take, and paid in more $$$$$$$$. We should be hearing of a vote in the near future. Also more noise from the Catskill Region in NY State in yesterdays paper.

And finally... That BUFFOON Governor of ours has caved in... Waterbury politics as usual. Don't let the jail cell door hit ya on the way in.

    N&B
  • N&B- Where do all the Native Americans come from? I thought you
Pilgrims took over a long time ago. Does a Flordia tan qualify? Just
kidding folks...... The NY thing is interesting and I would say that
any activity would be somewhere around the river. I used to get up
that way a lot. What is it with rivers and other water-ways anyway? It
must be some 200 yr old loop hole in the laws.
  • Being Irish and Cherokee, I shouldn't make jokes. A thousand pardons....

    Grifter,
I prefer Laughlin, myself, over any other place I've been so far. (except Puerto Rico) I see that you go their too. Where do you stay and play there? Aside from Fitsgeralds (or most all of Fremont Street) in Vegas, I find almost every casino in Laughlin just more relaxing and fun to play in, and just plain easier to manuver in losing sessions. What are your thoughts on this?
    Mike
  • Nickels,
I was also at MS today. CSM's, Spanish 21, Blackjack Bonanza... blah blah blah. If you walked in there for the first time and didn't know where to look it might take 1/2 hour to find a regular ole' game of BJ. But at least they haven't taken away the 6-deckers yet.

After a very ominous start I came back and had a tremendous day... one of my best ever actually. On one shoe I had the count at +12 with two decks left, I couldn't believe what I was seeing... the highest count I've ever had at a game there.

Anyways, I played for about 5 hours. And what did our favorite casino comp me for all my wagering...............$1. And I'm not joking, I wonder if they pulled back on the comps (usually feeble anyways) because I was spanking them so badly.
  • Ray, N/B, GH21 - Congrats on the wins......Four of us played in the last couple days, and three were winners. Not bad at all. Unfortunately there was one loser.......me! Dropped about 35 units, and really never had a 'fightin' chance'. Just a slow, steady downhill slide. Played sixteen hours and probably didn't have have a half dozen hours where I actually won money.......Just couldn't get the cards, and when I did get 'em I didn't win with 'em.......That's the way it goes.

  • Ray... Manhattan.

Being Dutch, and and having ancestry to 1641 Queens/Brooklyn ... New York was OK until the English came along.... DOH !

  • GH21... Thats true progression to the CSMs, Playahs to the 6 deckers.

Good to walk around... you see the variety of 21 offered. My first table was quite good $10min. playing green. I don't spread more than 1-4 under those conditions. A5 went to +4 half way in. Thats always a good sign for me. The house coughed up 7 units on that first shoe. The next 4 netted me 8 more, and I tipped 1 to the dealers. I was up 19 but had a bad split that cost me 2x twice (9's against a 6). I figgured it was time to go. I was winnin them earlier.

I settled in another pit and played $10 to 40 for a few shoes. Very even, but when I'd get ahead a little I'd get a phat hand and lose. Eventually that was enough for an hour and a half making $20. I tossed'em in and said time for the home trip.

Nice ride back, sunny and warm. Route 2 looks nice in the summer: better in the fall.

  • Mike - I agree with you. Overall, I don't think you will find a better place to play than Laughlin right now. The 2D games could be a little better (no DAS), but compared to LV; Laughlin has following going for it.
    - Virtually no traffic
    - Not crowded (more relaxing/fun to play as you said)
    - Nine good casinos within easy walking distance
    - Definitely more "laid back".
    - Plenty of open tables.
    - Here's a big one: Most people are there to gamble, not "party".
    - Full comps for a smaller/reasonable average bet.

I play all of the casinos, but probably spend more hours at Edgewater, Colorado Belle, Flamingo, and Ramada Express.....For my wife and me, there is only one place to stay, and I'm glad to give them a 'plug'.....Ramada Express. Not fancy and plush, but comfortable, friendly, and defininitely laid back. If you are a patriot and/or veteran, check out their website at ramadaexpress.com.

    Regards.....Grifter
