Bad hand pop quiz
  • Sitting at a 4 deck S17 DOA DAS LS CSM you are dealt 5 bad hands over the course of play... which one of these 5 is the worst by loss % when making the best play?

Hint... Basic Strategy indicates NO Surrender, they're not that bad.
  • OK... the polls are closed.

    #1) 5-10 vs. A = - 48.4%
    #2) 7-7 vs. 10 = - 47.8%
    #3) 7-10 vs. A = - 47.5%
    #4) 6-9 vs. 9 = - 47.34%
    #5) 8-8 vs. 10 = - 47.27%

Of all the plays here, splitting 8's against a 10 is the best play. Also its the only one that requires you to ADD to your bet. A pair of 7's against a 10 is worse, but that choice amounts to hit or surrender. These are the worst hands you'll never surrender: 15 vs. a 9 or Ace, 7-7 vs. a 10, Hard 17 vs. Ace, and Split 8's vs. a 10. The next best choice to make IS surrender, if offered. NOTE that if the dealer HITS soft 17, you surrender 15, and hard 17 vs. Ace if allowed.
