Superstition
  • Okay, here I was counting down a shoe just for kicks, a green chip player. Someone wanted to jump in I didn't (count wasn't good). Player immediately stopped other player got annoyed after losing a hundred dollars and left cursing the other player.

Well I was told to step away from the game a little. Not because they thought I was counting but because the player needed to concentrate. Well I did but continued to count. The next shoe was really really good. I decided to jump and play, other player stopped, heheheh. I made almost two grand than decided it was time to leave after losing two hundred dollars.

The player accused me of being 'bad luck.' Boy these players are so dumb and blind about the whole truth of blackjack that I can use their own blind beliefs agains't them!

It's still kind of annoying though, especialy when the shoe turns positive and they turn and ask me to 'sit a few out.' I meen get real! Any counters have any suggestions of what to do about these players?
  • I played at a place called Pechanga last week and sat next to a little Asian woman who drew a pair of 9's against the dealers 4. She leaned over and asked me if she should split them, and I answered her (I typically would not have offered a hard fast opinion) without thinking, I said yes. I would have split them.. she did and ended up doubling on one as well. Well, it ended up that the dealer drew to a 20 or 21, and the table lost. Some guy sitting there with us came unglued, and proceded to tell her how every book ever written says never to split 10's 9's and 5's ect. And went on and on for a couple more hands, saying that she even screwed up the rest of the shoe. I personally just wanted to stab this guy in the throat, repeatedly. I suppose that the proper thing to do, though, would be to wait for the guy outside and just beat the crap out of him, and steal his unemployment check.

Mike, that was one of the funniest post's I've ever read on this board. Probably because I agree with it. Its like when I try to teach my girlfriend blackjack, and she has a 12-16 versus a dealer 6. I tell her to stand because the dealer will hopefully bust. Of course, the dealer doesn't, and I have to hear, "I knew I should have hit, your way doesn't work." New players just don't understand that the right move doesn't mean it is going to be successful every single time!

P.S. I don't want to stab my girlfriend in the throat.
  • IF YOU DON'T BELEIVE THE OLD ADAGE''THOSE WHO SPEAK THE LOUDEST HAVE THE LEAST TO OFFER'' JUST GO TO A CASINO AND SIT DOWN AT THE NEAREST BLACKJACK TABLE-YOU'LL QUICKLY BECOME A BELEIVER.

  • Of course there are no 'bust cards' and whenever I try to explain this to some of the 'experts' on the table I get nothing more than dirty looks or lack of comprehension. Especially when this one player complained bitterly about why he couldn't stop losing.

Well it was easily explained besides just 'bad luck.' He doubled down on his soft thirteen agains't a duece. Stood on his two eights, simply hit his aces because he lost it the last few times so of course that meens he was going to lose it now. Also he never once doubled down unless the dealer showed a 5 or 6.

Man was I laughing at him. I did all the proper moves and was winning steadily while this poor soul was down over a hundred dollars. I've noticed that alot of these people are of the older generation. I don't know why but it seems like these supposed veterans are worse than the players they criticize!

An Added note: Whenever I doubled on my 11 agains't a 10 and I won it they were amazed but when I losed it they called it 'bad luck' and I all I said was 'just odds of the game.'

It seems that the vast majority of these losing players have no understanding about basic strategy and infact don't trust the overall odds.

I will, at times, usually when I'm tired and ready to go home, and alone at the table, do some really stupid moves, ie; continue to let it ride until I lose or double on 16 against a dealer 10, or hit 17 against a dealer 8. And better than 1/2 the time (not a precise calculation  ) win or break even. I've found it fascinating to watch people's uninformed strategies and watch as they clean up sometimes as well. More than once I've wanted to thank someone for hitting a hard 12-16 against dealer 6 as they collected a baby and let the dealer serve themselves a stiff. I know that is gambling but at times I still like to think of it as a "Game"

  • I CAN'T STAND when someone criticizes the way I play. I know it's best to just ignore them but I physically can't refrain myself from saying something back. I've almost gotten in fights (and I'm a little dude). A couple weeks ago in A.C. there was this big guy in the middle playing between 200 and 300 a hand. I was at 3rd going between 10 and 100 according to the count. Well one time when I had 10 up and he had 300 I had a 12 and the dealer was showing a 3. The guy was telling me not to hit because I would take the dealer's 'bust card'. I hit and, sure enough, got a 10 to bust. The dealer drew to 21 and everybody lost. This guy starts telling the people next to him how I'm an idiot for taking the dealer's bust card and saying things like, "That's why he's losing and I'm winning". I just couldn't restrain myself. I went off on him. He left the table shortly thereafter.

I'll try to be better next time. But I doubt it will work.
