I've been playing this game regularly for a couple months now and have seen it all.....well thought I did til yesterday. The dealer is usually quite good and hardly makes errors but this time I caught one and stopped him. I'm at 1st base and dealt a hard 17 against his 3. The table is full and is played out and the dealer has 3-10 and draws a 4. Payout starts from 3rd base to me and he pays me! Just as he is about to gather the cards I stopped him. He saw the error and called his pit boss and the payout was taken back. I'm not one to try to capitalize on a dealer error, especially when its only $10. I feel I will just get screwed later even worse. What goes around comes around, eventually.

So my question would be if I took the payout and said nothing, can the casino camera show the pit boss the error and force me to return the $10 later on? Anyone ever have this?

I think you did the right thing. Since you've seen the dealer before, even better. Chances are dealer remembers you too. Mistakes happen... not worth $10, $50, etc. getting fired or bounced from the hand that feeds ya. And you wouldn't wanna be "in cohoots" with the dealer, or floor-person etc. too!

I have a different take on it. Pointing out the mistake causes the pitboss to get involved,and now a minor error disrupts the game,points out to the pitboss that the dealer is either inept or was daydreaming,and perhaps gets the attention of the eye in the sky.Little good has come from you being a nice guy.I'd let it slide.... unless its a mistake thats not in your favor.

As for can the house force you to repay the money- I don't really know,but there was a story that made the rounds a few years ago where Pete Rose got paid way too much money on a sports bet,and after they caught it,he refused to give the money back,even though it meant that several people would get fired for the mistake.That part of the story made the papers.What transpired later,if there was a court case,whatever,I don't know.

Another odd experience today. I was playing 2 spots and clicked a BJ on my first spot and 18 on #2. I'm paid my BJ, the dealer sweeps the cards, and I leave my original bet there. Wave off the 18 and as the other players go the dealer then busts and begins paying out. After all the cards are swept up I realize he paid my empty spot I had the BJ !! I decided to stop him and point out the error. I go to this casino 2X a week and I want to be known as honest and not a chizzler so that way I keep best relations with the pit bosses. So far so good.

dealers are only human....and mistakes happen sometimes no matter how good the dealer is. If the floor or surveilance catches the mistake of you getting paid out they can ask for the money back. If it's only $10 I doubt they would though. I've seen a dealer make a $2000 mistake and the player didn't wanna give the money back. Casino Manager got involved with that one...player changed his mind when they took him upstairs.

Yes. If you are paid in error, the casino can make you pay it back. But I have never seen a player forced to do it.

Occasional the house will let it slide or will not notice it until it is too late or the player has already left. In that case the player will keep it. Sometimes the player will lose all his money on the table after that and it would be kind of hard for the casino to ask for it back!

The errors go both ways and can be corrected any time.
In Biloxi this week I was playing DD pitch. I still consider myself a beginner at counting so my attention is focused on the counting aspect of the game. That meant I was not totally focused on the other areas the game. Anyway, the game was being dealt fast and the dealer was picking the cards up fast. I was only getting a second to peak at the cards and try to follow the count. I was dealt a BJ. I had $45 in the betting circle. I failed to do the math on the BJ payoff of 3:2. The correct payoff should have been $67.50. The dealer only paid me $52.50. I thought it was short but was not sure and didn't have time to double check it. I looked at the chips in my hands (with a bewildered kind of look) for just a second (long enough for the dealer to notice) and figured the dealer knew what she was doing. I didn't want to look stupid and call the dealer out if she was correct. I then put the chips on the felt in front of me instead of in the chip groove. I did keep them separate from the rest of my chips. At the end of the round I could double check. The next hand was dealt. While I was playing the hand the dealer asked if that was my payoff from the previous BJ, which I acknowledged. She then volunteered that she thought it was wrong and called a PB over to double check. He confirmed that it was $15 short and allowed the dealer to pay me. Then play continued.
I put $10 of the $15 aside for the dealer. On the next two hands I bet $5 each for the dealer. We won both hands! Turned out very good.

A few weekends ago I was playing in the tropicana in atlantic city when i hit 88 against a dealer 8, I split and got a 4 on the first one and motioned to hit using my left hand (since I'm left handed and all and was leaning my head on my right hand) and the dealer totally skipped that first 8 and pulled a 7 on the next 8. I stop and say "why would i stay on a 12 against a 9? and the dealer at this point is saying that since i used my left hand to signal that she thought I was pointing at my other 8. Regardless, the pit boss got involved and let that first 7 go to the 12 and let me play the next 8. Then the next night at around 3:30 am I was playing with my dad and a few other people (we'd been playing since the dealer started at 10pm). Some kid sits down and buys in for $60 (it was a $15 table) and ends up getting some hand that basically required him to split and double twice to get a 15 and a 16 total. The dealer is showing a 9 at this point. So my dad coincidentally has a 12 and motions to hit, the dealer then proceeded to turn up her face-down card because she thought he was motioning to stand and we basically ended up having to stop play while the pit boss came over and called another 2 pit bosses over while they decided what to do. they finally let my dad play his hand while looking at both of the dealers cards, turned out the dealer had a 19 (surprise!!) anyway and my dad hit and got a K but it was still weird that they let him play seeing the dealers face down card. So this guy that lost on both doubles (and all of his money) looks at my dad and say "way to f*** up the cards you dou*he". What a jerk...

The jerk is upset at himself for losing and he takes it out on your dad. You can also play the jerk with this guy and just tell him if he did not join the table when he did, you and your dad probably would have won the last hand, and then say to him "way to f*** up the cards!

As far as playing against a dealers exposed hole card, it happens often enough. Often you just play it out, dealer has 19 you hit to you get 19 or better or bust. I have seen cases where you get a choice of opting out of the hand or playing. Depends on the situation and the pit.
